This Week Camie Beaubien Discusses:
The question of should one workout when sick is often asked of trainers. The quick answer is yes, if it’s a head cold you can still workout, but if it’s in your chest you should stay home.
Okay to Train:
• Runny Nose
• Sore Throat
• Nasal Congestion
Not Okay to Train:
• Chest Congestion
• Bad Cough
• Unable to keep food down
• Achy all over
If you’re sick, you should never do more than a light to moderate workout, and remember it’s not always a question of CAN you workout, sometimes it’s a question of SHOULD you workout.
Think of yourself at a gym training really hard and then someone starts sneezing and wiping their nose. What are you thinking? You’re probably wondering why they’re in the gym possibly infecting everyone else. The same goes for you. Even if you wash your hands, clean every machine and piece of equipment that you touch, you’re still possibly infecting others.
So yes, you can workout if you’re sick, but the question of should you workout when you’re sick is a question that can only be answered by you.
