FEAR OF THE GYM (part 2)

Fear of the Gym – Part 2

Last week I discussed men’s irrational fear of “the Gym.”
This week I’ll focus on women and their fear of “the Gym.”

Women love going to the gym, the classes, the cardio machines, the pool, but… Not all, but some women are still intimidated by the weight room.

“The guys will harass me.”
“The women will judge me.”
“I won’t know what I’m doing.”
“I don’t want to get all sweaty and grimy in front of a bunch of men.”

Like with the men and their so-called reasons, these are more of excuses than valid reasons for not using the weight room.

“The guys will harass me.” Most men are in the gym to train, not to pick up women. I’ve never heard a woman say that she stopped using the weight room because of men harassing her. Most gym conversations are brief, and headphones are a great way of saying that you want privacy.

“The women will judge me.” Women, like men are in the gym to train, and they’re not worried about what you look like. Unless you’re deliberately trying to draw attention to yourself, most people are so intense with their own training that they will not even notice you.

“I won’t know what I’m doing.” Most machines are self explanatory, but at XL Health Club we offer training sessions designed to introduce men and women to the entire gym. Also, most if not all gym members will be glad to show you how to use any piece of equipment.

“I don’t want to get all sweaty and grimy in front of a bunch of men.” This is probably the most perplexing excuse I hear from women. You’re supposed to get sweaty and grimy. You’re not there for a beauty contest. You work hard in the gym so you can look good outside of it. If you’re done with your training and you’re not sweating, you have more work to do.

The fact is that there are no legitimate reasons why a woman should be afraid of the weight room. You pay for the entire gym, so take advantage of all the areas of training, and enjoy everything your fitness club has to offer.
